A Look at Different Wedding Dress Shapes

In this part of the article we will take a careful tour of the dress shapes by Yedyna and reasons why to choose this, not that one.  What type of personality does this certain shape suit most, fit most and match the most. Let's start your "dress hunting" with us!

Mermaid wedding dresses

mermaid wedding dress

The mermaid dress is often attributed to French designer Marcel Rochas, who popularized the style in the 1930s. Mermaid wedding dresses are distinct for their form-fitting silhouette that hugs the body from the chest to the knee, flaring out dramatically at the bottom. This style accentuates the bride's curves, creating a striking and glamorous look.

Why should I choose a mermaid wedding dress shape by Yedyna?

Choose a mermaid wedding dress for its flattering, curve-enhancing silhouette that creates a dramatic, glamorous look. This Yedyna wedding dress shape highlights natural curves and offers a sophisticated, elegant appearance. If you do a good job at the gym, and you want to show your well-built shoulders, backline, and curves our collection is there for you.

A-Line wedding dresses

a-line wedding dress

The A-line dress was popularized by Christian Dior in the 1950s. Dior's "New Look" collection introduced this timeless design, emphasizing a nipped-in waist and a fuller skirt, which revolutionized women's fashion.

Why should I choose an A- Line wedding dress shaped by Yedyna?

This style is universally flattering, providing a balanced look that suits various body types. Unlike mermaid or ball gown styles, A-line dresses offer a more subtle and classic silhouette without excessive volume or tightness. This kind of shape is characterized by its fitted bodice that gradually flares out from the waist to the hem, resembling the shape of an uppercase "A."

Ball Gown Wedding Dresses

ball gown wedding dress

The ball gown design traces back to the mid-19th century and is often associated with Queen Victoria, who popularized the style with her wedding dress in 1840. This timeless silhouette remains a favorite for its elegance and grandeur.

Why should I choose a ball gown dress shaped by Yedyna?

The ball gown wedding dress by Yedyna features a fitted bodice and a voluminous skirt. It is often supported by crinolines or petticoats, creating a fairytale-like silhouette. This style contrasts with other shapes by offering maximum volume and drama, ideal for brides seeking a princess-like appearance.

Trumpet wedding dress

While the exact origins are not as well-documented as some other styles, trumpet gowns gained popularity in the mid-20th century. Trumpet gown wedding dresses differ from other shapes by featuring a fitted bodice that flares out around mid-thigh, resembling the shape of a trumpet.

Why should I choose a trumpet wedding shape by Yedyna?

This style is less dramatic than the mermaid dress, which flares at the knee, offering a more subtle yet elegant silhouette that still highlights the bride's curves. Our collection offers a wide range of trumpet bridal types. It’s perfect for brides seeking a balance between a fitted and a flared look.

Different Wedding Gown Elements: Neckline, Back, and Skirt Options

Neckline

I guess no one would deny that tiny elements make big sense. As you get to the point the choice is made and you know what style and shape you need, you can start customizing your perfect wedding gown.

What can customization involve?

Apparently, they are - necklines, back styles, and skirt options. There you can be creative enough and as imaginative as you wish.

Yedyna Wedding Studios gives you very many options to find an appealing neckline. Ones vary from corsets that can be embellished as rich or minimal as the bride wants to boleros that can keep the bride warm or for any cultural/religious reasons.

For different body shapes and dress styles we offer - v neck, high neck, boat neck and scoop necklines.

One shoulder, off the shoulder,  asymmetrical - for those who have decided on the shoulders as the main accent of the wedding gown.

Sleeves, sleeveless, cap sleeves - for those brides, who want to have the arms hidden or shown, depending on the season and weather.

A strapless neckline is classic and versatile, suitable for a wide range of wedding styles.

It highlights the shoulders and arms and can be paired with various skirt options for a custom look.

Back

When selecting the perfect wedding dress, brides often concentrate on the front design, but the back style is equally important. The back of a wedding dress can create a stunning statement and leave a lasting impression on your guests.

Choosing the perfect back wedding dress necessitates a reflection upon personal style, comfort, and the thematic essence of your wedding.

The backless wedding dress is the epitome of elegance and allure, featuring a design that showcases the bride's back in a dramatic and sophisticated manner. This style ranges from subtle keyhole openings to completely open backs, often adorned with delicate lace, intricate beadwork, or minimalistic clean lines. Perfect for brides who want to make a bold statement, a backless dress adds a touch of glamour and sensuality, ensuring all eyes are on you as you walk down the aisle and throughout your special day.

The button back wedding dress exudes timeless elegance and charm. Featuring a row of delicate buttons running down the back, this style adds a classic, sophisticated touch to any gown. The buttons can be functional or purely decorative, often extending from the top of the dress to the end of the train. This detail enhances the dress’s overall design, providing a graceful and refined look that’s perfect for brides seeking a traditional yet stylish appearance on their special day.

The Keyhole back wedding dress features a distinctive cutout shape in the back of the gown, often resembling a teardrop, circle, or oval. This elegant design element combines modesty with a hint of allure, offering a perfect balance for brides who want a unique and stylish look. The keyhole back can be adorned with lace, beads, or other embellishments, adding intricate details that enhance the overall beauty of the dress. Ideal for both classic and contemporary bridal styles, a keyhole back dress ensures a memorable and eye-catching appearance from every angle.

The v back is a timeless choice that exudes elegance and sophistication. The V-back design adds a touch of allure without being overly revealing, making it a perfect choice for traditional and modern brides.

Skirt Options

Yedyna offers floor-length and short skirt options that don’t need much explanation. As far as you decide on your wedding style and the venue, you can make up your mind about which one is more sensible to choose to feel free when dancing on the beach or compliment high-heels.

Falling between the knee and ankle, the tea-length skirt is a vintage-inspired option that’s playful and chic. It’s great for brides who want a retro vibe or a dress that’s easy to move in.

Leg slits in wedding gowns offer several advantages, making them a popular choice for modern brides:the slit draws attention to the legs and can elongate the figure, giving the illusion of height and you can choose fascinating footwear and enjoy the moment in high- heels or even sandals.

We believe that every bride deserves to shine, and our commitment to quality craftsmanship and attention to detail ensures that your dream dress becomes a reality. As you embark on this memorable experience, let Yedyna Wedding Studios guide you through the enchanting world of wedding dresses, where your perfect gown awaits. Feel like a queen, captivate your groom, and make an unforgettable statement with a Yedyna wedding dress. Your perfect day deserves nothing less than perfection.

Types of Fabrics Used for Wedding Dresses

Tulle

Tulle is light and airy and just right to make volume styles, without weight. This will be perfect for brides who want to dream of themselves as princesses as they float down the aisle. As a good example, we can take Lily James’ Cinderella’s ball gown dress in the live action movie, which shows the layer of flowing tulle. But this fabric is delicate and can be easily snagged. Perfect for grand ballroom weddings, but may need some attention regarding outdoor or destination celebrations in an unpredictable environment.

Glittery Fabric

Glittery fabric is made for the bride who wants to have a little extra sparkle. Imagine Zendaya's Met Gala shining in Versace. The fabric catches and reflects light making it perfect for an evening wedding under the stars. But there are drawbacks too: glitter fabric can be heavier, and may not be as comfortable for outdoor weddings, especially in warmer climates. Of course, if you’re going for impact-making fabric, this is the one you will be wise to choose.

Organza

Organza gives structure without being too stiff, making it an excellent choice for wedding dresses with layered skirts or detailed bodices. It’s perfect for brides who want their gowns to have well-defined shapes that maintain elegance. This is a very light material for a wedding gown which makes styles look very elegant, perfect for breezy outdoor weddings on the beach, on top of a cliff. Or think of Meryl Streep’s flowing dress in Mamma Mia! For destination weddings it’s a great option…but be careful of wrinkles.

Lace

There is nothing more romantic than lace for a wedding gown. A fabric beloved by royalty, lace adds texture and intricacy to a bridal style. Kate Middleton brought modern brides a new standard with her dress, with its different lovely lace detailing. Lace makes for a lovely and versatile choice of either an overlay or an accent piece for a church wedding or a countryside ceremony. Thicker lace, while possible, may sometimes feel stiff and won’t feel as soft on your feet, so be aware of your movement, whether that is dancing, walking or sitting down, if you are going to have a lot of that.

Satin and Crepe

There are two timeless, luxurious fabrics, satin and crepe, which provide the smooth, polished finish to any dress. Satin, that shiny, reflective material often found in Grace Kelly type Old Hollywood glamor gowns, is perfect for an elegant evening wedding. For modern, minimalist designs, Crepe offers a sleek, matte finish that looks great. For example, think of Meghan Markle’s famous back dress. These aren't too heavy a fabric, which makes them good for cool weather or indoor ceremonies, however, they might not be ideal for a summer beach wedding.

Types of Decor Used for Wedding Dresses

The decor on your wedding gown is what truly makes it stand out. From intricate lacework to bold embellishments, each type of decor adds a unique touch to your bridal style.

Lace

Little lace decor will give you a vintage romantic feel. Think of Grace Kelly’s iconic wedding gown—the lace overlay added a level of elegance and sophistication that’s timeless. The tendrils of french lace can be threaded onto sleeves, necklines or gowns in full. For traditional weddings in a chapel or an old world venue, it’s perfect. While heavier lace might feel a bit stiffer, you choose wisely depending on your movement needs.

Beaded

Brides who don't want something too crazy, yet still want a little sparkle, will like the beading trend. Beading works best in formal settings where the lights can emphasize the gown’s beautiful contours and shapes. Lupita Nyong’o’s beaded detailing on her Oscar dress is a perfect example, the beading shined, but it was not the type of attention grabber. The beading works well for different indoor ceremonies in the formal situation: the lights are going to catch the detailing of the beaded so that they look very good. Beading does add weight, however, so if you’re getting married outside or to a destination, it may not be the greatest choice.

Pearl

Subtle. Elegant. Pearls are also the perfect decor for a classic bride. Audrey Hepburn made pearls a symbol of sophistication, and they’re a beautiful addition to any wedding dress. Suits elegant, intimate ceremony, evening weddings held in city venues.

Crystal

Crystals are the perfect option for the bride who wants to shine. You don't need me to tell you that J.Lo's crystal studded wedding gown at the Met Gala proved just how dramatic and glamorous these embellishments can be. Adding crystals adds sparkle and glam, making them perfect for ballroom weddings, or any grand reception. But they do add weight to a dress so if you are planning an outdoor or beach wedding maybe lighter options are better.

3D Flowers

For the bride that loves to make a big dip, 3D flowers are perfect. For outdoor weddings in a garden setting, such as these floral embellished gowns worn by Blake Lively on the red carpet, these designs are great. In the 3D sense, we have a textural dynamic effect that is playful and yet elegant. This decor is tricky to manage in the wind, so maybe indoor venues are better.

Draped

Draped fabric brings a dress a soft, flowing element, excellent for brides who would like to feel as if they are floating down the aisle. The Seven Year Itch gave us Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress where the fabric moved with her the way the draping should on a dress. For beach weddings, the wind picks up the folds, creating a romantic, effortless look, so it’s perfect.

Feathers

For brave brides only feathers are recommended. Lady Gaga wore her feathered gown at the Met Gala: a perfect example of how bold and eye-catching this decor can be. Used for winter weddings or different high-fashion city venues, feathers lend a whimsical, avant garde vibe that’s best as part of a dress. Remember, too, that it is possible the feathers are delicate and should be treated with extra care, especially if being left out where the wind may blow them about outdoors.

How to Determine Which Wedding Dress Styles Will Suit Me

Picking the right wedding dress is about more than just the look—it’s about finding something that complements your body shape and makes you feel confident. If you want to enhance your hourglass figure, visualize Kim Kardashian’s iconic shapes and mermaid gowns, designed to highlight her curves. If you're blessed with curves, a prom gown in trumpet style hugs in all the right places yet isn’t too shabby on the red carpet.

There's nothing pear shaped brides adore more than the balancing of their proportions, and A line dresses do this beautifully by drawing your eye to your waist and extending your body forward. Think of Kate Winslet at the Oscars, often opting for flattering A-line styles. If you’re shorter, like Natalie Portman, you can follow her lead and wear sheath dresses that elongate your body. A sheath gown closely clings to the body, creating the look of height without being overly overwhelming to the smaller framed woman.

Brides that are taller (supermodel Karlie Kloss comes to mind), can rock dramatic ball gowns. These dresses have fuller skirts and fitted bodices, identifying height and establishing themselves as ethereal, somewhat queen-like items. Whether you’re planning a winter wedding in a castle or a tropical beach ceremony, there’s a bridal style to match every location. All you need is a bohemian A-line gown, like the one Margot Robbie wore in her beach wedding followed by a sleek crepe dress like Meghan Markle’s evening reception dress to go for urban or formal dressing respectively.

Always try on different shapes and types of dresses—you might be surprised at what makes you feel like a bride!
